Monroe University has operated its Castries, Saint Lucia campus since 2007. It is part of the same Monroe University system as the Bronx and New Rochelle campuses. Monroe states that many degree programmes offered in New York are accessible through Saint Lucia, giving students access to the University's New York curriculum while studying in the Caribbean.

Quality built around practical learning

Monroe describes its programmes as career-focused, with academic support available on campus and online, internship opportunities, evening classes, and a three-semester calendar. Times Higher Education also highlights rigorous education, supportive communities, cultural exposure, and experiential learning as important strengths of Caribbean higher education.

A more affordable way to begin

For 2026-2027, Monroe publishes Saint Lucia full-time undergraduate tuition of EC$7,044 per semester for 12-18 credits. Published New York undergraduate tuition for the same credit range is US$8,700 per semester. At the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank's fixed exchange rate of EC$2.70 to US$1, the Saint Lucia base tuition is approximately US$2,609 - roughly 70% below the published New York base tuition. Fees, housing, travel, books, immigration costs, programme-specific charges, and personal expenses are separate.

A Monroe degree and wider campus possibilities

Saint Lucia students graduate from Monroe University, and the University reports that its Saint Lucia campus had awarded degrees to nearly 1,900 graduates by 2025. Eligible students may also explore approved study at Monroe's New Rochelle campus, including the University's published 12-credit New York opportunity. Programme equivalence, transfer timing, immigration requirements, and campus availability must be confirmed individually.

Nigeria-friendly entry pathway

Monroe's official international credential guide lists TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE as not required for applicants from Nigeria and accepts WASSCE or SSCE results issued by WAEC or NECO, with the required result-verification access. Final subject requirements and admission decisions must be confirmed by Monroe University for the chosen programme and intake.

A simpler flight gateway from Lagos

Air Peace now publishes scheduled direct Caribbean service from Lagos to Barbados and Antigua. A Monroe Saint Lucia student can use one of these islands as a regional gateway, then take a separately booked inter-island flight to Saint Lucia. This route can reduce dependence on itineraries through Europe or North America, but it is not a direct Lagos-Saint Lucia service. Flight dates are limited, connections are not protected unless sold on one ticket, and students must verify baggage, transit, visa, re-entry, and immigration requirements before payment.
